Our Rough Cut

Rough Cut feedback and changes I made in light of my feedback.

Our feedback:

What the class liked:
  • Samuel and I's lip-syncing
  • the choice of locations
  • the colours
  • the song
Criticisms:
  • The shots on the millennium bridge were quite dark and you couldn't see the artists faces very well so we were told to try and re-film them.
  • To edit our green screen base tracks
  • More Shot angles
  • more establishing shots
The base tracks located on the Millennium bridge was the main issue that we needed to fix based on our feedback so as a group we tried to work out a plan to travel back to the location and film around 4 base tracks of both artists. However we did not have time to re shoot the base tracks so we instead cut and only used parts of the base tracks that were efficiently lit. Before the deadline we managed to edit all of our green screens into a white background to replicate the artists performing in a studio.

Based on the feedback that we needed more establishing shots I then took it upon myself to go to the millennium bridge and shoot some establishing shots in the evening using my Canon 600D camera.
Once I showed my group the shots that I had taken using my camera they really liked them and attempted to incorporate them into the music video. Unfortunately, once put into Premier the shot frames did not match with all the clips that we already had used when using the college camera. To overcome this, we looked back through all the shots that we already had and used the ones that we thought could work (such as the opening shot of the pan of the London Eye).

Why I made these changes

I made these changes because the feedback was from people that fit into our target audience of teenagers and young adults. So it was extremely important that I took their advice on board as I am essentially aiming to make media products that appeal to my target audience and products that they will buy.

How the audience in the cinema reacted to my finished music  video

Additional Final music video feedback

Overall,I think that our music video was successful because it followed the codes and conventions and seemed to appeal to my target audience based on the feedback that I received.

Ancillary text feedback

The feedback that I received from members of my target audience when they viewed my ancillary texts was very positive. The positive feedback showed me that my media products were successful because my target audience liked them and said that it looked real.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Overall, I have learnt that audience feedback is essential to making successful media products because you need to create content that will appeal to your audience. From my audience feedback however I have learnt that audiences expect to see certain conventions across all media content. For example, in UK Rap music videos artists expect to see the artist dressed in a tracksuit as it has connotations of being urban.
