21.) Test shots and footage of potential performers (edited by Imaani and taken by Ellen)

J and S.Dot

Featuring artist 'J'

There is a recurring theme in these images that will relate to the official ancillary images.I edited these images in black and white to link to the official ancillary pack that will be in black and white, the clothing is based around the urban and current trends amongst young adults. We wanted to show the two artists together in the shots so that it represents the relationship that we explore between the two artists in the music video.

The brands include:

  • Adidas
  • Nike
  • H&M

23.) Incorporating synergy into our three productions

S.Dot's glasses and large rings are our synergetic pieces within our branding of him as an artist. We plan on incorporating this into the website by having various images of him on the website gallery that show close ups of his face and hands, the digipak images that highlight his glasses and rings and the music video that consists of many close ups on these features. The digipak  will have a media close up of S.Dot with his hands clasped into a prayer position (to show his rings) - the close up of his face also shows his glasses. If we do crate an advertisement it will be slightly similar to the music video in the context that it will consist of many close ups of his rings and face.

Updated production schedule..

Filming on the half term

Our original plan was to start filming on the 21st of October. However, due to various circumstances we had to start filming at a later date (the 26th - 27th). Our first location was a park in Shoreditch where we recorded performance base tracks in front of a spray painted background. Later on in the day we travelled to a section of London Docks, filming at this location wasn't very successful because we were losing light and we did not have lighting equipment on us at the time. We also found that the location didn't fit with our song or the overall concept of our music video. However we did manage to get a few shots of the setting as we didn't want to leave the location without at least recording one thing.

Filming in Shoreditch

The next day we travelled down to Namco World in London Bridge to get our casual and fun shots of the two artist playing together. Before we started filming we asked the manager for permission (he said yes) and we then started setting up the camera on the fig rig and recorded multiple close ups and moving shots of myself and Samuel playing games within the arcade. We also managed to record establishing shots of the area that we were in. Later on that day we travelled to the Millennium Bridge. We recorded some establishing shots and pans of the lights and buildings surrounding the bridge however we did not record any successful performance shots planned because the bridge was very busy and people were constantly walking into the shot and blocking the light.

What we plan to do next

  • We plan to go to the millennium bridge at a later time in the hopes that it is less busy.
  • We aim to film more during and after college hours, especially on the weekends when we have more time because we do not feel as though we have enough footage yet.

Synergy..

Over all our ancillary products (digipak, website and advertisement) our synergy will be shown through our artist's use of glasses and his silver rings.
Keeping them our main focus of synergy means that we will use a lot of close up shots on our digipaks and the rest of our ancillary pack. We'll be having a photo shoot for mainly S.Dot but also for our featuring artist J who's synergy is her hair.

Inspiration..

RISK Assessment (Imaani)

Individual audience task..

23 - Incorperating synergy into our Three Productions

This image contains many of the ways in which we will incorporate synergy into all three of our productions. The most obvious of the three, which will play a large part in the digipak, website and the advertisement, is our use of monochrome colours. As we feel it is not common of our genre to include a large amount of black and white filtering, our characters will be seen in black and white clothing. We then aim to continue this by having black and white images for our digipak.

Also, the use of S.Dot's glasses and rings is important in creating the synergetic links between all of our products. As S.Dot is the star of the song, the audience must be able to recognise products that are linked to him and therefore the rings and the glasses will be essential in enabling the audience to draw these links.

To allow this to happen, we plan to include many close ups of S.Dot's face and hands so that the audience are forced to recognise his glasses and rings in the music video. We hope that the use of black and white in the digipak images will  draw attention to his black glasses frames and the light hitting his ring.

18.) Analysis of the Digipak/ CD for your final song

Website analysis..

Unfortunately our original artist T Mulla doesn't have an official website for his music but he does use his social media to promote himself especially Twitter.

Post pitch analysis ..

After having given our pitch to our peers we received some good feedback from the class. But as a group we knew there were things we already needed to improve on i.e. adding more detail to the risk assessment. My responsibilities now after the pitch will be to make the final version of our storyboard and then uploading an animatic for it which shall be done soon.

Pitch 8 - Synergy (Samuel)

The key visual element we will be using for our music video is jewelry (rings) . This is because a lot of artists similar in the rap scene wear jewelry in their videos , therefore this is why this will be our key visual element.
As you can see above , the rings on the artists fingers . Further more , our theme is black and white which will be seen throughout.
With the logo , you can see the black and white theme is still carried on, the synergy between the logo and picture above (part of the album cover) creates a brand image , with the rings being the key visual element.

The idea of the multiple rings and close mid shot came from one of 2Pac's album covers.

17- Risk Assessment (Samuel)

•Rain Damaging Equipment – Make sure to check the weather before hand and bring an umbrella to protect the equipment from getting wet.
•Loss of equipment- If certain equipment aren't being used , put them away back in its holders and make sure they are in sight.
•Film In areas in which you are allowed to film in , no danger areas such as filming near building sites as it may be dangerous.
Hot lighting : Set up the lighting before plugging it in as you may burn urself (as i've previously done) and also wait for it to cool down before packing it away.
Stay as a group incase any incidents happen or people from the group manage to get lost.

Pitch 14. Animatic (Ellen)..

Here's our short animatic.

Pitch 14. Final Storyboard (Ellen)..

final storyboard - Kizoa Online Movie Maker

This final storyboard is more relevant to our theme and will flow better with the song. I've added in locations that were not in my previous storyboard as we only came across some when visiting our locations. Which hadn't been done till after creating my first storyboard. Hopefully we manage to stick to this storyboard, with only slight difference's due to filming error's etc.
Animatic will be uploaded tonight!!

PITCH - 13.) Industry (Imaani)

Who would your artist be signed to and why?

Island Records - Major British record label

Which other similar artists  are also signed to this label?
Dizzee Rascal

Skepta

Would your song be available for internet download only? if so, why?

Yes, because S.Dot is an upcoming, young and urban artist. He can reach his target audience by promoting himself and his music via different social media platforms such as Twitter, Soundcloud and Facebook. In addition, artists of the same genre also take on this approach. An example of this is Stormzy whereby his single 'Wicked Skengman' is on iTunes for his fans to download. Furthermore, internet download can be easier - as the majority of his target audience constantly use multimedia devices and are up to date on the latest technologies. Internet download is also more affordable for the audience to access as there are often discount deals and options to use gift cards.

Will you be signed to a major or independent label?

Mainstream label because the artists that are similar to S.Dot are signed to mainstream labels, this is because the artists have large amounts of funding. The extra money made by mainstream record companies means that the major labels will be able to fund high-quality production, packaging, global physical distribution as well as digital distribution through the major online outlets, world tours, and music video shoots. This may appeal more to the audiences because the branding and content of the artist is more visually pleasing and professional. In addition, major record labels have a lot of industry links therefore the artists have access to multiple media outlets that can promote their music and their image. Furthermore, mainstream record labels have a more established reputation therefore they may be taken more seriously than independent record labels.

Potential Lyrics - Unannotated

This is the unannotated lyrics.

Potential Lyrics - Annotated

These are the annotated lyrics with what we may do at these parts of the song.

Pitch 7 - Costume (Monique)

PITCH 6.) Setting & Location (Imaani)

Powered by emaze

UPDATE

  • When S.Dot says "Smart ass gotta do her school ting" we will show the female feature in the college library or a college classroom doing work (reading a book and writing).
  • We will also need to film in a household setting as the line "take you to my room" is repeated several times throughout the song. We will show the two artists together watching TV and playing games in the living room of the house.

Pitch 4/5 - Audience (Monique)

A fan of music videos from this genre would expect to see the urban London locations. They would also expect to see the contrast between every day London life - through the costumes, and a fast wealthy lifestyle that most UK Rappers try to portray through the use of props like jewellery.

18 - Analysis of digipak for T MULLA - POTENTIAL

When analysing the promotional materials or DIGIPAK for our chosen song 'T-Mulla ft Kali Claire - Potential' we have to consider the fact that the artists are young and unsigned and also are yet to release a video to this song. Previous videos by the artists allow us to predict the kind of video we will see for this song however, as this song is not typical for this artist, it may be hard to judge.

Furthermore, in terms of institution, the audience are unaware of any institutions involved in the production of this digipak as their is no institutional information provided; all credits for this song go back to the artists involved in performing the song.

In addition, the images used on the media product strongly relate to the core audience as well as the purpose of the song.

18. Digipak..

Analyzing the didgipak(album cover) there are clear features that communicate the style of the song to the audience. The use of focus on the close up these two rings communicates a close relationship.

The style of the rings is to make them look like crowns one for a queen and the other for a king. And in the song the artist T Mulla mentions bringing home a queen and the feature Kali Claire sings about him being her king and this makes the digipak link to the lyrics.

The image of the single cover is simple and just there to promote the song. Using a simple and clear black font to state the artists and the title.
The feature's name is the same size as T Mulla's which shows that they are equally important in this song. So we will have to make sure that though T Mulla is our main focus we do include Kali Claire in our products. Because of the use of crowns I assume that the artist wanted to come across on a level higher than his audience so we will to keep the style of royalty in our video(i.e. jewelry, camera angles).

Post 19 - Examination of artists website (twitter page)

20.) Mood board

Locations that we plan on going to and incorporating into our music video.

19.) Social Media of chosen artist

Due to our chosen artist being unsigned and having a small following he does not have many social media accounts.

17.)

Our artist does not have a music video for their song 'Potential'. However we will look at videos of a similar genre that we can draw inspiration from. Here are a few music videos that have the same genre and similar contexts.

14 - Reflection

I feel as though the quality of my blogs is significantly better compared to last year. However, I have now realised the time and effort that is needed for a blog to be of good quality, and this is making it difficult for me to get all blogs done and published by set deadlines. I have tried to use different formats to present my work but have found it difficult to make my posts different and memorable.
TARGETS TO IMPROVE:
-Try to utilise different ICT in order to make the blog more interesting
-Complete class tasks to a better standard to make all blogging and homework tasks easier to complete
-Complete all 'RESEARCH FOR MUSIC VIDEO' tasks to a good standard in order to have the first section of the blog complete to a high standard.

14. Reflection..

My blogging so far this year is much more consistent than it was last year, as I'm blogging daily rather than weekly. I'm putting more time into my posts though I know I need to use more forms of presentation for my blogs, which I will work on from now on. I'm not too sure on what I would give myself for my blog posts so far as I know I also need to put more detail into my posts so it's more quality content.
Also as a group we are working hard to ensure that we're not just doing independent work but combining ideas and working together to create blog posts.

Post 14 - Reflection on progress

I believe compared to this time last year , the quality of my blogs have been incredibly better than last year, this is due to the realisation of time that we have left and the amount of different ways of creating blogs visually has improved for me. However, I believe that I do need to blog more often and use more visual elements in my blogs in order to improve my current progress grade. In order for this I have 3 targets in which I need to follow in order for this to happen : 1. be more adventurous with the USE of ICT 2.Complete Andrew Goodwin task with Images 3. Complete missing blog posts

14.) Reflection On Progress

My use of ICT and blogging as a whole has improved a lot since last year. The majority of my posts now consist of embedded presentational devices rather than plain text posts. My blogging has also been more consistent as I aim to get a certain amount of posts done in a week in a bid to stay organised and focused on my coursework. So far i'd give my blog a 13/14 out of 20 because i think that my posts include a good amount of analysis and information, however there is more improvements to be made.

I need to:

  • Use a wider range of presentational devices
  • Try and stay on top of my blogging
  • Catch up on blogs that i've missed due to absence

12. Evaluation of our recreation..

Today we edited the footage we got of us recreating Katy B's Louder music video.
We realized that we didn't have enough base tracks which made the overall task a lot harder and longer than it needed to be.

We had a huge deal of jump cuts which proved to be really tricky when editing because we wanted them to be timed out perfectly. Katy B's video has a huge amount of jump cuts in just the first minute so trying to recreate it proved to be really hard for Samuel(camera man) and Monique(directed).

Overall the actual footage in itself had very few mistakes but at points our framing was off as Ellen would be in the second/middle frame. But fortunately from this task we now know what we need to do for our final music video and know what we need to put more thought into when planning.
